This Easy Homemade Oreo Ice Cream has been in my family since I was a kid. I am reminded of long days at the pool, the smell of chlorine and sun-dried hair when we make this every Summer. The days were (and still are) SO hot here in the Deep South, but it was always so refreshing when we were served this Homemade Ice Cream. It’s creamy texture was a must-have with its crushed Oreos and creamy ice cream. Best part: it is made with a lot of our favorite cookies…. OREOS!

It wasn’t until later in life I realized how easy it was to make, you don’t even need an ice cream maker, electric mixer or fancy equipment. I thought it was so hard to make when I was a kid and I suppose it made it even more special for us kids thinking that the adults slaved over it. But, nope this is such an easy recipe! Here is what you need……

Homemade Oreo Ice Cream Tips

  • You do not have to get name brand ingredients. We have experimented with non-name brand Vanilla Ice Cream and Cool Whip, BUT we have never skimped on the Oreos. Always buy the name brand Oreos!
  • Make sure you thaw the Cool Whip and the Vanilla Ice Cream so it will be easy to mix together.
  • Make it the day before if you can. For some reason it always taste better when it freezes for about 24 hours in the freezer.
  • We like larger chunks or Oreo cookies better than the smaller ones. After you make it once, you will figure out your preference.
  • Sometimes I even throw in a few extra cookies for good measure, of course.
