Every year my Mama made this Memorial Day & July 4th Layered Dessert. It was always a great Summer treat that none of us could pass up. It is fun, festive and oh-so yummy! Oh and did I mention how it is such an easy recipe to make?

I don’t know about you, but in the Deep South or in my neck of the woods, we love keeping things simple. In the Summer we hate using the oven too much since it is blazing hot outside. We are always looking for easy and simple ways to cook or bake, so we are not adding to the heat since it is already too hot outside. We love festive treats, creative ideas and a delicious dessert!

Summer is a perfect time to have get togethers with family and friends, pool parties and cookouts. School is out and everyone needs a yummy and easy dessert recipe. This trifle dessert is perfect for any hot summer day! So here is what you will need and how to make it!

Layered Dessert Tips

  • Choose whichever pie filling you would like to go first in your glass trifle bowl.
  • Use however much of each ingredient you would like, this is your dessert, so make it how you like it.
  • The more of each ingredient you use the better for more vibrant colors for the Holiday.
  • We love making this dessert the day before a gathering. This provides a bit more time for the flavors to come alive.
  • Want a fun way to get the kids involved with food preparation? Have your kids help in the kitchen with this dessert. This recipe would be a great place to start with its simple ingredients. It is super easy and they love layering the ingredients together. My daughter is thirteen now, but she has been putting this recipe together since she was a toddler and she still loves making it for everyone. Lazy Summer months are the perfect time of year to get them started in the kitchen.
  • Make sure you have a glass trifle bowl or you will not be able to see the festive colors. Not only is it something yummy to eat, but it is also a decorative piece for your Holiday party and gathering.
  • Your friends and family will think you slaved in the kitchen over this, so be prepared for the extra attention.
  • Fresh berries could be used in this patriotic holiday dessert if you will be eating it immediately. Get creative and have fun.
  • I love using fresh blueberries over fresh strawberries if we won’t be eating it immediately and and we find blueberries on sale. Strawberries tend to get mushy if not eaten immediately.
  • This festive dessert is perfect for Labor Day too!

This refreshing treat is for sure a crowd- pleaser. It has been in my Southern family for years and hopefully it can be in your family for years to come as well. Let me know if you decide to try this recipe. I would love to hear how your friends and family love it too!

What an easy way to impress your friends and family! Am I right?

My little girl (well she isn’t that little anymore) loves making this layered dessert with me every year, as you can see in this video. Honestly, she kinda takes over and I am not mad about it……

What are some traditions you and your family have during the Summer months and on Independence Day?
