We ventured out a few weeks ago and visited Cheaha State Park….. And it did not disappoint.

Cheaha State Park is nestled around Cheaha Mountain in eastern Alabama. It may not seem like high elevation to some in other parts of the country, but it is the highest elevation in the state of Alabama. State Parks are such a treat and when you take the family in the camper it will make for a beautiful vacation.

It has plenty of hiking trails and when the weather is right you can see the valley below on all of the hiking trails. It is gorgeous.

Make sure you check out all of the amazing things you can do on Cheaha State Parks grounds by going to our YouTube Channel

Camping at Cheaha State Park in Alabama

If you are an avid camper or a beginner camper, you know that the best camping spot is a must! Everyone has their preference. Some want a Mountain View, some want a valley view, some want a water view, some want a big camping sight, some want it intimate and small, some want it shaded and some want it in the sun…… whatever your preference, I have got you covered. We chose a “upper level” location…. meaning we were on top of the Cheaha Mountain.

Cheaha State Park Upper Level Camp Grounds

The Upper Level doesn’t have the mountain views since you are on the mountain. But it does have great, spacious and shaded camping sights. Check out our YouTube video to see if you can find a spot that is right for you and your family.

Let us take you on a tour of the Upper Level of Cheaha State Park:

Cool, huh?

Pros and Cons of Cheaha State Park Upper Level

Pros:

  • Spacious campsites
  • Great Shade
  • It is on Top of the Mountain
  • Lots of Spots That Are Away From Neighbors
  • Hiking Trails

Cons:

  • Verizon Cell Service is Limited
  • It is on Top of the Mountain

Cheaha State Park Lower Level Camp Grounds

If you are in the mood for views of the lake and mountains the lower level will be your speed. Again, the campsites are spacious with lots of room. Some of the sites on the lower level are absolutely gorgeous backed up to both the mountains and lake.

Let us take you on a tour of the Lower Level of Cheaha State Park:

Pros and Cons of Cheaha State Park Lower Level

Pros:

  • Spacious campsites
  • Great Views of the Lake and Mountain
  • Lots of Spots That Are Away From Neighbors

Cons:

  • Verizon Cell Service is Limited But Not Totally Unreachable
  • No Hiking Trails

If you are wanting somewhere with Wifi and great cell service this is not the place for you. Since I take my work with me and I count on Wifi for a lot of my work I was able to go to the Front Desk and Restaurant on the grounds and was able to sit and get my work done. They are very friendly and they do not mind at all. They know a lot people need WiFi these days so they accommodate. Cheaha State Park is made to get away from civilization. I promise you it is well worth the lack of cell service and Wifi.

Lots To Do At Cheaha State Park

We made HoBos at our campsite. They were so delicious!  Get our Hobo Recipe here!

We went hiking at Pulpit Rock and Bald Rock. Check out our video for all of the fun things you can do and to see the restaurant that I spoke of above.

Of course, everyone has to make smore’s when you camp so you know we did too!

Oh and I almost forgot, we made bacon in a paper bag over the campfire. Sounds strange, right? But it can be done. Check out how to do it here.

We also made some of our favorite camping recipes too. Some of these are staples and we make them all of the time.

If you decide to go to Cheaha State Park, let me know how you liked it! We would love to hear and how you made your trip amazing too!
