Air Fryer Chicken Drumsticks Tips for an Easy Dinner Recipe

  • For really crispy chicken legs in this air fryer recipe, make sure you pat your chicken drumsticks dry with a paper towel before you coat them in the oil and spices. I usually lay this in a single layer on a plate to make sure they all get patted dry. Doing this removes excess moisture and ensures your chicken cooks up with a crispy skin, which is the best part, right?
  • Always preheat your air fryer. Just like your oven, you want to make sure your air fryer is hot and at temperature, which is 400 degrees Fahrenheit for the chicken legs.
  • For the best air fryer chicken drumsticks don’t overfill the air fryer otherwise your chicken drumsticks won’t cook evenly because the hot air won’t be able to circulate fully which is how the air fryer magically works. Your air fryer manual will tell you specifically how much to put in.
  • Chicken is done when the internal temperate reaches 165 degrees F. If you want you can adjust your cooking time and cook your air fryer drumsticks to 180-190 degrees F so the meat is falling off of the bone. Also, cooking it to a higher temperature gets rid of the bloody spots around the bone which my kids think is “so gross”. I love this kitchen thermometer.

  5. Add spice mixture to bag or bowl and toss to coat chicken drumsticks. Make sure spices are even on all your chicken
  6. Place your chicken drumsticks in air fryer basket and preheated air fryer and cook at 400 degrees for 10 minutes.
  7. Flip chicken drumsticks over using tongs and cook for an additional 10 minutes at 400 degrees. You may want to add a few minutes if you want the internal temperature to be 180 degrees. Use a digital thermometer to check temperature.
