My super cool friends have been asking me to do a blog or blogs on organizing. So here you go! Now y’all can stop bugging me!No seriously! I love my friends. I’m just glad they think at least I have one good skill. Even if they only love me for my organizing skills, I’m okay with that. I’m not saying I’m a professional organizer by all means. But, it gets the job done and works for us. After I had the twins I was on a mission to simplify our lives and that meant cleaning out and purging. I had been on bed rest for quite some time with the twins, so our house really needed the cleaning out and purging. Things had been upside down, to say the least, for quite some time and the boys were approaching a year old so I was on a mission. I cleaned out closets, I cleaned out my pantry, I cleaned out anything and everything. If you have read my blog, you know I purge a lot around this house. With five people, we accumulate a lot of stuff. So once a quarter we purge! We have a donation pile, a consigning pile and a keep sake pile. Of course the donation pile gets donated, the consigning pile gets consigned at a local consignment shop or I sell it on eBay (more on that HERE) and the keep sake pile goes into a plastic tub marked with the contents and the child’s name. When I started organizing I bought this fabulous contraption. Isn’t she a beauty? I love my labeler! Chris jokes that one day he will come home and the kids will have labels on their foreheads with each kids name. Hey, I’m so obsessed with this thing, I just may! You can find my labeler HERE. I just bought this one, my other one died I used it so much. That was a sad day, it couldn’t hack it.The second thing I went out and bought were these clear shoe boxes. Yes, shoe boxes. These boxes are the perfect size for just about everything you can think of and they fit on just about every shelf. They are very versatile. I wish I could take credit for this awesome find, I was given this advice to purchase these shoe boxes from someone at church and boy was she right, they work fabulous! I have them in nearly every room in the house. You can find them at Bed Bath and Beyond or HERE. Yes, they are a little pricier than the Dollar Tree version but, they hold up A LOT better! They are worth the money, for sure! I still have yet to use them for what they are actually made for, a shoe box! Here’s a few tips to get you started:
Those are a few things to get you started. I’m going to take you step by step each week and help you work your way through your house. Next week, we can tackle the kitchen! Dun dun dun! ~xoxo~ |
